The inspiration for the Rome Shakespeare Festival came while one of the founders was walking downtown. As Gail Deschamps, founder and artistic director, walked across the Chief John Ross Memorial Bridge one day and looked at the Town Green, she said she had "an epiphany". "It was the perfect place to do Shakespeare," she said. "Perfect."

Gail Deschamps, Founding Artistic Director
Gail Deschamps, the founder of Rome Shakespeare Festival, is the former Artistic Director of Florida Shakespeare Festival and GMT Productions—a national touring theatre company. Over her career, she has directed the plays of Shakespeare most notably Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, All’s Well That Ends Well, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet, The Taming of the Shrew and The Tempest among others. As an Artist in Education and writer, Gail has given workshops in Shakespearean Performance and her librettos for Two Gentlemen of Verona and Lewis and Clark were honored with rave reviews from the national press. Tracy Hellriegel, Executive Director, RSF Young Actors Executive Director
Tracy Hellriegel joined Gail soon after her decision to create Rome Shakespeare Festival. Tracy, CEO of Tracy Slack and Associates and Weddings of North Georgia, is a graphic designer, marketing consultant and an event planner. She brings with her a lifetime of theater experience in acting, designing, producing and directing for multiple acting companies in and around the Atlanta area. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Atlanta Gay Men's Choir, Rome Little Theatre, The DeSoto Theatre, Rome Shakespeare Festival and currently serves on the Executive Director for the Rome Shakespeare Festival.
