Instructor: Gail Deschamps
Gail is the former Artistic Director of Florida Shakespeare Festival and GMT Productions—a national touring theatre company. Over her career, she has directed the plays of Shakespeare most notably Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, All’s Well That Ends Well, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet, The Taming of the Shrew and The Tempest among others. As an Artist in Education and writer, Gail has given workshops in Shakespearean Performance and her librettos for Two Gentlemen of Verona and Lewis and Clark were honored with rave reviews from the national press. Both received US touring grants.
As an actress, Gail has performed with The Coconut Grove Playhouse, Miami, Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre, New Orleans, Theatre Under the Stars, San Diego and Vancouver, BC, The Airie Crown, Chicago and St. Louis Muny Opera among others.
Gail holds a BA in Theatre with an English Minor from the University of Miami. She studied writing under Nobel Laureate, Isaac Bashevis Singer, received an Individual Artist Grant from the Georgia Arts Council and is a former Georgia Artist in Education.
A recognized director, playwright and lyricist, Gail recently directed Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire for Rome Little Theatre.
Gail, her husband Robert and their dogs (Teddybear and Morgan) live Between the Rivers in downtown Rome, Georgia.
