2021 Shakespeare Camp

2021 Performing Arts Camp Update

We here at the Rome Shakespeare Festival would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your continued support throughout the years. In a time that has been difficult for theatres throughout the country and world, your dedication to the arts has been an inspiration. We have also been touched by your efforts over the last several weeks following the passing of our founder and champion of the arts, Gail Deschamps.

There have been a lot of changes and adjustments made at RSF as we strive to fulfill Gail’s vision. One of those ideas was a Performing Arts Camp; we see the immense amount of young talent in Rome and the surrounding areas, and we want to create an event that will foster such talent. While we have posted some information for this camp on our website and Facebook page, after much thought and consideration, we decided it would be best to delay the camp until summer 2022.

We are disappointed to have to postpone the launch of the RSF Performing Arts Camp. Our mission is to provide our patrons, youth, and families with an elevated quality of theatre that is accessible to all. With that in mind, we have chosen to lengthen our timeline in order to provide our community’s young talent with the best camp possible.

RSF will still be offering production opportunities for our area’s young thespians throughout the summer. The 2021 Rome Shakespeare Festival’s production of All’s Well That Ends Well, directed by Nancy Dobbs, is this year’s Young Actors show.  We strongly encourage all actors 18 and under to audition! As part of the rehearsals for this production, we will conduct an acting workshop with the cast and a select few of the Professional Actors working with the festival. Young Actors will also be given the opportunity to become ensemble members of The Tempest, inhabiting the mysterious planet and working alongside our Professional Company.

The next few months are jam-packed with many exciting events, and we hope you plan on attending as many as you can. On June 12th we are hosting a Festival Fundraiser at Kingston Downs. There, you can meet the cast and directors from The Tempest and All’s Well That Ends Well. We will have a silent auction and entertainment will include select performances from both shows. It is sure to be an evening filled with magic and enchantment!

Again, RSF and RAD are deeply grateful for your support and desire to see live theatre continue. We hope to be treading the boards in downtown Rome for many more years to come!
